The Helsingin Sanomat, Finland's leading daily paper, published a comparison of the ten most popular holiday home municipalities in the country. The winner of the comparison was Uusikaupunki but the other highly ranked communities were not far behind. The municipalities were ranked using a set of fifteen criteria. Kangasniemi scored highest in three categories, among other things its beautiful landscapes were much appreciated. The article described Kangasniemi as follows:

"Kangasniemi has around 6 500 inhabitants. The number more than doubles during the holiday season. There is water, beach and islands all over the place. Four reasonably good grocery shops. Adequate services and lots of peace and quiet."
