The Pochard, a monument in honour of Reinhold von Becker

"The Pochard" (Sotkalintu) by sculptor Veikko Haukkavaara was unveiled in 1985. Wanting to commemorate the life of Reinhold von Becker (1788-1858) Kangasniemi municipality commissioned the work in the jubilee year of the Kalevala, Finland's national epic. 

Today "the Pochard" perches on a boulder at the entrance to Kiviniemi holiday village near main road 13.
